2008 Sand Volleyball Rules

 

1. All players MUST BE 21! Absolutely NO EXCEPTIONS.

2. There is NO DRINKING OUTSIDE due to city ordinance. There will be NO WARNINGS as this could put our liquor license in jeopardy! If any player is drinking alcoholic beverages we have the right to EJECT THE ENTIRE TEAM from the league.

3. No CATCHING OR CARRYING of ball. DO NOT pull or hang on the net.

4. Team CAPTAINS make their own calls. Any time a player touches the net during play, they should be called on it. If there is a DISCREPANCY between captains regarding a call and an agreement cannot be reached, SERVE OVER, NO POINT AWARDED TO EITHER TEAM.

5. Times on the schedule are times games ARE TO START. These are PROMPT start times. If a team is not on court and READY to play, they forfeit one game for every 5 minutes late. Please follow this rule closely so that all games stay ON SCHEDULE throughout the evening.

6. Games will be canceled due to rain, ONLY IF it is raining AT GAME TIME. DO NOT ASSUME match is canceled without calling the LOST MINE 895-2611. If you do not show up and WE have not canceled any matches, you will FORFEIT! Rain earlier in the day should not affect scheduled play. Rain outs will be rescheduled at the end of the season (dates to be posted later in season). Games can ONLY be made up on scheduled make up days. Games made up at other times will not count!

If we are under a tornado watch, even if it’s not raining, but there is lightning, games will not be played until watch has expired.

7. TEAM CAPTAIN of first team listed in match is responsible to report scores to bartender before leaving. Failure to do so, that team will not be awarded any points for the evening.

8. If for some reason your team is not going to be here to play, please notify other team captain as it is very discouraging to show up to play and not be able to. The wins are nice, but FORFEITS ARE NOT FUN! Most teams would rather earn the points.

9. If a team FAILS TO SHOW UP, without notifying the opposing team captain, we have the option of accepting another team to replace yours for the rest of the season, transferring your entry fee to their team. Please try to give a minimum of ONE (1) HOUR NOTICE.

10. When a team bumps the ball (1st hit) to the front row of their team, and player is making 2nd hit, the opposing team CANNOT CROSS THE PLANE OF THE NET AND INTERFERE WITH TEAM'S PLAY. They may reach STRAIGHT UP to block it, but may not cross the net! (If it was 3rd hit, they could.)

11. ROSTER: All team rosters MUST be turned in by the end of the 3rd night of league. You may list an unlimited number of people, but not anyone that is already on another roster on the same night. Beginning with week #4, you may ONLY use players on your roster. In the event you do not have enough people you may ask 1 male and/or 1 female from another team to sub. Any team that does not comply with this rule will forfeit their matches for the night.

12. When the ball is played MORE THAN TWICE by a team, AT LEAST ONE of the contacts MUST BE BY A FEMALE! There is no requirement for a male player to contact the ball, regardless of the number of hits.

NO MORE THAN 3 WOMEN OR 3 MEN ON COURT AT ANY TIME!

Please do not ask opposing team captains if they mind if the rules are
"altered a bit"! Please play by the above rules.
